As a graduate of Atlanta University in 1927, Grace Towns Hamilton was the first African American female to hold a seat in the Georgia State House ofRepresentatives. American Civil right activists and leader, Evelyn Gibson Lowery graduated from Clark College in 1946 and led her efforts as founder of SCLC Women.
The inaugural award will be presented annually during the CAU Baccalaureate service to a female who has demonstrated leadership and dedication to the community in the area of human rights and social justice.
